Taking a Military Approach to Increase Owners' Time Onboard

JUNE 18, 2019

Yacht owners often view time as one of their most valuable assets. So when they plan on spending time onboard their vessel and the trip is cancelled due to equipment failure, it is a huge disappointment. The military has the same issue with its assets. To mitigate this risk DLBA uses the same steps the military uses, which are the engineering processes of reliability and availability analysis to minimize downtime as much as possible and practicable as new platforms or systems are developed.

Reliability analyses examines the individual components making up a system and then determines how reliable the system is likely to be. Contrarily, availability analyses looks at the system level to indicate availability; simply, the yacht is only available for use when it is not broken down or undergoing routine scheduled maintenance.
