Marquis 42 with Outboards

NOVEMBER 2, 2020

For us, at DLBA Naval Architects, the only thing more fun than seeing a completely new design is getting a new perspective on an existing design because it has been reexplored. This fall Marquis Yachts gave us the chance to see just that in the DLBA-designed, award-winning M42. She was originally sea-trialed with inboard motors, getting a “Best-In-Show” at the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show and a listing on the Boat Industry’s 2020 Top Products list, but as of this fall she has now been tested with the power of 3 Mercury outboards behind her. We were excited to see her perform with outboards, especially given the prominence of outboard motors in this size range.

Be it inboard or outboard power, performance cannot be compromised. We are pleased to announce, that both the inboard and outboard options are exceptional. Even with some minor propeller tweaks being made, she gets on plane quickly and provides great visibility with optimal trim angles, reaching 50 mph (43 knots) fully loaded.

One feature that exceeded even our expectations is the clean wake patterns that result with the outboard motors. The overhang geometry optimizes the flow into the propellers while allowing for the clean wake. A representative from Mercury who was present for the test said it was much cleaner than he anticipated based on other similar boats tested.

Overall, Marquis Yachts and DLBA couldn’t be more pleased with getting a chance to see how the M42 handles with outboards. We look forward to getting more details as final adjustments are made, not to mention hearing what her first owner has to say.
