My father has always said – you can’t improve what you don’t measure.  This phrase stuck with me through the years and while most of the time when he said it, I would roll my eyes; I have come to embrace it in recent years.  The impetus for that shift in my appreciation of dad’s wisdom was seeing my boss, Donald Blount, do that very thing time in and time out.  Donald was passionate about measuring and improving.  Whether it be capturing data from boat test articles, evaluating, and refining resistance prediction methods, or tinkering with DLBA model test data over and over; he never stopped.
