Blue Gulf Cat 43’ (13m): Tested and Proved

August 5, 2022

In the last quarter of 2021, we worked with Blue Gulf Cat in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), providing them with some support in the hydrodynamic design of a stepped planning hull. Through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and our high-speed expertise, we were able to provide additional input into their creation of an efficient stepped hull, balancing safety and performance while operating close to the threshold of dynamic instability. We are gratified that we heard from them in late June this year as they tested the full-sized hull in the water with quad 350hp Yamahas. They achieved up to 73mph (63 knots) while carrying her 5,800kg (12,000 lbs.) of weight.

They said: “It’s having good longitudinal stability within the trim angle range of ‘2.5 degrees, and we don’t feel any porpoising throughout the ride, dynamic instabilities in running and turning as we expected with this geometry. We genuinely appreciate the work and the support you have done for us, and we are delighted to share this with DLBA. This information and the suggestions from both ends are validating the scenario and will be useful for the future designing, too. We are very pleased to work with you and are looking forward to future collaboration, too.” It’s so gratifying to see our contributions to our client’s work come to life. We look forward to additional collaborations with the team at Blue Gulf Cat.
