Collaboration with Silver Ships:
40ft. Buoy Tender

MARCH 30, 2021

DLBA is excited to be working with Silver Ships, Inc. on a 40ft Buoy Tender for US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Two, and maybe three, buoy tenders of this design will be operated in the Pittsburgh District of the USACE. DLBA has been busy working with Silver Ships over the past couple months to design the arrangement, hull form, and all auxiliary systems with the voice of the customer in mind.

From afar, the 40ft boat appears to be a relatively simple but well-outfitted workboat. However, when you dig deeper in the design specifications the boat quickly becomes one of the most capable small boats in our portfolio of work. Outfitted with a 3,000lb capacity loading ramp, 3,000lb A-Frame, two 2,000lb side cranes, a pair of 350 Suzuki outboards, and a 20kw generator – the boat provides everything one could want to get the job done.

The hull has been designed with lifting stability in mind complying with all requirements of the USACE EM 385-1-1 (a stringent set of requirements for a boat this size). Using DLBA’s past experience with fast landing craft, the hull has been meticulously designed to balance a 30+kt speed, huge payload capacities, and significant stability requirements for lifting heavy objects over the side. Construction of the first boat is expected to begin this summer, with the second to follow before the end of the year. DLBA can’t wait to get onboard for a spin and maybe even help clear the intercostal area of logs, rocks, or anything heavy we see in our way!
