DLBA has two designs nominated for Workboat’s 2019 Boat of the year

NOVEMBER 27, 2019

Annually, WorkBoat Magazine announces its shortlist of 10 nominees for Significant Boat of the Year. From that list, the Boat of the Year is chosen and announced at the International WorkBoat Show in December, and for the first time, DLBA has two boats included on the list.

Workboat's boat of the year nominated Brazos Pilot Boat

The DLBA team considers it an honor to be included alongside our peers, and both vessels were projects we were proud to be involved in. The Brazos Pilot Boat is a 64‘ vessel by Metal Shark for which DLBA performed the naval architecture, structural design and propulsion system engineering. The vessel is Metal Shark’s largest pilot boat to date and features a DLBA warped hull bottom for good efficiency across the full operating speed range, while maintaining excellent seakeeping characteristics.

Workboat's boat of the year nominated Kayak Express

The second inclusion is Kayak Express – a 70’ vessel capable of carrying 72 passengers on kayaking adventure tours. We created this very specific design to carry 36 kayaks and guests to and around the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshores on guided kayaking tours. The vessel was built by Moran Iron Works as the first of its kind in the Great Lakes region, and the hull form is a double chine, variable deadrise monohull for improved seakeeping and efficiency.
