PROJECT:

KAYAK EXPRESS

Nominated for significant boat of the year by Workboat Magazine when she launched in 2019, Kayak Express shows design with purpose. Pictured Rocks Kayaking commissioned Moran Iron Works in 2018 to build her to effectively launch and recapture kayaks around Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. She can handle offloading or onboarding of two kayaks at a time unlike Pictured Rocks Kayaking’s original boat, which had to be retrofitted to serve one kayak at a time.

At 70’ (21m) and 55 tons, she can carry 72 passengers, 6 guides, and 36 kayaks. When she isn’t steadily shadowing her passengers as they kayak, her twin Cummins QSK19 engines at 800 hp (600 kw) each can take her up to 20 knots. DLBA Naval Architects is proud to have been the naval architect for this significant, custom build.
