Flying Across The Sea Propelled By Ai

APRIL 28, 2021

We’ve been talking about artificial intelligence (Ai) and different ways to leverage this technology into yachting for the benefit of the owner. Emirates Team New Zealand capitalized on this technology in a big way in this year’s America’s Cup. If you haven’t heard about how the boat designers and operators teamed up to leverage Ai, you need to check out this story.

This story is a great example of how creative engineers can harness Ai to achieve objectives in time frames once thought to be impossible. The level of execution here is much more than the average yacht owner can afford as you can easily appreciate, but the story is a perfect example of the gains that can be achieved.  While this application of Ai focused on training a computer to sail and then using that as a training tool for the sailors is awesome, there are other ways to implement Ai.

In our efforts here, we are developing control systems that learn from the system as it operates under normal parameters. The system controllers use Ai to determine what operating parameters are “normal”, and what type of diversions are considered “alarming”.  With this knowledge, the onboard vessel control system will be “smart” enough to identify faults, diagnose the root cause, and provide prognosis, and then reconfigure the system to keeps things humming along.

Below you will find the recording of one of our previous webinars on Ai and superyachts.

These technologies, once implemented on a superyacht, will provide the owner with greatest chances that their yacht  is ready to use and enjoy whenever they are.
